VHTO aims to increase the participation of women and girls in science, engineering and technology (SET). VHTO is a non-profit organisation. Our activities are funded by Dutch national projects to promote SET, the Dutch Ministry of Education, schools, universities, trade associations, businesses, science centers and many others.

VHTO initiates and executes a wide range of projects and activities, from primary education to the labour market. VHTO activities are based on results of national and international research and include:

  • spotting and fostering SET talent in girls,
  • increasing the knowledge of girls of SET workfields, jobs and education
  • raising gender awareness in teachers, staff (PR) and management of schools and universities
  • making (the minority of) women professionals in SET more visible
  • promoting gender inclusiveness of SET courses in university and vocational training
  • supporting women & SET networks in universities and businesses
  • co-operation with different organisations in events/campaigns on girls/women and SET

Although the innovative activities of VHTO are primarily focused on women and girls, they have a much broader impact. Females as well as male students and engineers are supported by these innovations.
