_DSC4055On 14th November, Inova hosted an event in the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield to celebrate for not only one, but two very good reasons! First of all, the fe:male network was ready to be used by fempreneurs all over Europe, so that we felt it was time to spread the word about this fantastic opportunity. Second, Inova celebrated its 10th anniversary, as the company was set up ten years ago by Marina Larios and Emma Parry.

And what started as a business project between two friends has developed to a successful team of currently seven staff, having supported over 800 female entrepreneurs across three different continents, including many different European countries. Excellent reasons to celebrate, we thought! To ensure a smooth organisation, we had started preparing this event about six weeks earlier, so when the big day finally arrived, we were very excited and looking forward to sharing this special evening with our guests.

From 4.30pm onwards, we welcomed our 60 guests who were invited to network and have a look at the exhibition stands that had been set up by some of the female entrepreneurs Inova have supported in the past. Their businesses covered such opposing areas as handicrafts or consulting, and since most women also sold their products at the event, the exhibition stands turned out to be an exciting marketplace. When all the guests had arrived, Marina took over the floor. She talked about her experiences as a foreign student in Sheffield and her following career, how she decided to set up her own business with Emma and how important it is to support other women to do the same, as female entrepreneurs like her are still underrepresented in Europe. For this purpose, the fe:male network has been created as a website where women can connect to share their experiences and trade with each other. Marina highlighted the benefits of this network for female entrepreneurs and encouraged all attendees to actively use this tool. After her speech, two successful fempreneurs and clients of Inova, Yee Kwan of Yee Kwan’s ice creams, [www.yeekwan.com] and Katey Felton, Silversmith [www.kateyfelton.com], introduced themselves to the audience. Both spoke about how they’d set up their businesses, what had kept them going, and why their support from Inova had encouraged them to take the leap and make their businesses a success. Following these inspiring speeches, refreshments were served and the guests could carry on networking. Most of them also took advantage of the free workshop “Applying positive psychology to your business” which was run by Emma towards the end of the evening.

At the end of the day, we were very happy with the outcome of our event, as it not only met, but exceeded all expectations. It was great to see all those fantastic businesses run by women and we hope that we can support even more women in their journey to self-employment.

If you would like to be a part of the fe:male network as well and benefit from this great opportunity, sign up now on this website. Thanks to funding by the European Commission, membership is free!
