8th April 2011 The day after session 1

Well that was quite inspiring. All the women in the group were friendly and none were frightening business women types! We spent the first part of the morning sharing our business ideas and we did a kind of mind map of our business idea, thinking about our strengths and our fears. With the use of some exercises Marina got us to see how we perceive things through our own filter and that it’s quite possible to look at things differently and that sometimes we may actually be standing in our own way. I had a bit of an A-ha! moment there. I can see now that this group is going to be about building confidence and self-esteem and looking at our strengths. I know this music writing as a business still feels like as just a fantasy but how much of that is to do with me just being afraid to take a risk etc. It’s very interesting, I think I was expecting it to be more boring to be honest- you know looking at figures and stuff, but this is  beginning to feel more like a journey of self-discovery.

We’ve been given a bit of homework- and we’ve had to commit to certain tasks we would do before next session. My main one is to see what’s out there at the moment in terms of music writing businesses. We’ve each been assigned a ‘buddy’ from the group who will ‘chase us up’ regularly to see how we are doing between sessions. My buddy is Laura*, who is a handbag designer. I’m buddying Vicky*, who is a cook. Their ideas are pretty cool but I can’t share them with you just now!! I must be sure to do my homework before next session.
